How Much Does a Funeral Cost?

Understanding the cost of a funeral can be difficult at an already challenging time. We believe it is important that our pricing is clear and straightforward, so you can understand the services included and make choices that are right for you and your family.

Below you will find our standardised price list, which sets out our funeral director's charges and the additional fees that may apply. Some costs, such as burial or cremation fees, are payable to third parties and are shown separately.

Attended Funeral – £3,105

An attended funeral is one where family and friends have a ceremony, event or service for the deceased person at the same time as they attend the burial or cremation.

Taking care of all necessary legal and administrative arrangements

Collecting and transporting the deceased person from the place of death, normally within 15 miles

Care of the deceased person before the funeral in appropriate facilities

Providing a suitable oak veneer coffin

Unattended Funeral

An unattended funeral is where family and friends may choose to have a ceremony, event or service for the deceased person, but they do not attend the burial or cremation itself.

Unattended Burial (Funeral director's charges only.)

Unattended Cremation (Funeral director's charges plus the cremation fee.)

Third-Party Fees You Must Also Pay

For an Attended or Unattended burial.1
For a new grave, you will also need to pay for the plot. For an existing grave with a memorial in place, a removal/replacement fee may be required. The cemetery may also charge other fees.

For an Attended cremation funeral​.2

Cremation fee: £974–£1,350
Typical local resident cremation fee: £1,350

1 This fee (which is sometimes called the interment fee) is the charge made for digging and closing a new grave, or for reopening and closing an existing grave.

2 In England Wales and Northern Ireland, you will usually need to pay doctors' fees as well. This is the charge for two doctors to sign the Medical Certificates for Cremation.

We can also provide or arrange a range of additional products and services. These are optional and may be supplied by us or, where appropriate, arranged with a third-party supplier on your behalf.

What isn't included?

Our funeral director's charges are shown separately from fees payable to third parties. Depending on the funeral arrangements, additional costs may include burial or cremation fees, cemetery charges, a grave plot and other optional services or products.

We will explain the costs involved with your chosen arrangements before the funeral takes place, so you can make informed decisions about the services you require.

 

 

 

 

Additional Options Price List

Direct Cremation — £1,995

A direct cremation includes:

  • Professional services and completion of all legal documentation and administrative arrangements
  • Bringing the deceased into care from the Royal United Hospital
  • Personal care and preparation of the deceased
  • Provision of a simple coffin
  • Crematorium fee
  • Use of the chapel of rest for visitation

Important information:

  • The choice of crematorium will be at the discretion of the funeral director.
  • Mourners cannot attend the crematorium.
  • The cremation date and time will be at the discretion of the funeral director.
  • Additional products or services cannot be arranged with this option.

 

 

Simple Funeral — £2,585 + third-party fees

The Simple Funeral includes

  • Professional services and completion of all legal documentation and administrative arrangements
  • Bringing the deceased into care from the Royal United Hospital
  • Personal care and preparation of the deceased
  • Provision of an Elm coffin
  • Use of the chapel of rest for visitation
  • Provision of a hearse and four pallbearers
  • Professional support and guidance throughout
  • Collection of cremated remains and delivery to you, if required

Service arrangements

The funeral service date and time are restricted to 9:00am or 9:30am.

Please note: a limousine or alternative choice of coffin is not available with this service.

 

Traditional Funeral — £3,095 + third-party fees

The Traditional Funeral includes

  • Professional services and completion of all legal documentation and administrative arrangements
  • Bringing the deceased into care from the Royal United Hospital
  • Personal care and preparation of the deceased
  • Use of the chapel of rest for visitation
  • Provision of a hearse and four pallbearers
  • Professional support and guidance throughout
  • Collection of cremated remains and delivery to you, if required

The funeral can take place on a date and time of your choice, subject to availability.
